Frequently Asked Questions

Is my text safe to use in this tool?

Yes, it is completely safe. All scanning and redaction happens locally in your web browser. Your text is never uploaded to our servers, ensuring your data remains 100% private.

What kind of data can this tool find?

The tool uses regular expressions (RegEx) to find common patterns like emails, phone numbers, credit card numbers, IP addresses, and various API keys (AWS, Slack, GitHub). It also attempts to find basic names and street addresses.

Why are some results not accurate?

This tool is in Beta and relies on pattern matching, which can sometimes lead to false positives (identifying something that isn't sensitive) or miss complex data formats. Always review the found items carefully before redacting.

Can I use this on PDF or Word documents?

This tool is designed for plain text only (pasted text or .txt files). To find and redact information in a PDF, you would first need to copy the text from the PDF and paste it into our tool.
